What is Ortho-K?
Imagine waking up in the morning and taking out your contact lenses instead of putting them on. Imagine being able to see clearly during the day without having to wear eyeglasses or contacts and without having eye surgery. Imagine all your daily activities without eyeglasses or contacts... such as tennis, basketball, football, running, and aerobics. For individuals that do not want to undergo eye surgery to correct their vision or wear eyeglasses or contacts during the day, this could be a very viable option.

Ortho-K (Orthokeratology)
Is a non-surgical process, which reshapes (flattens) the cornea of the eye using contact lenses to reduce refractive errors. Flattening the cornea reduces the focusing power of the eye. If the amount of corneal flattening is accurately controlled, it is possible to bring the eye into correct focus and compensate for myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.

Once the contact lens is removed, the cornea retains its flattened shape for the remainder of the day. A retainer lens must be used each day to maintain the corneal flattening, or the refractive error will revert to pre-treatment levels. After initial fitting, the wear schedule could be as little as one night a week up to wearing each night.

"This advanced proven technology gives our patients a great altenative to LASIK. OrthoK allows mild to moderate nearsighted patients great vision without glasses or contacts. Unlike LASIK this procedure is available to teens as well as adults and is completely reversible. In addition, OrthoK has proven to slow down, and in many cases stop, the nearsighted progression that many younger patients experience."
- Dr. James Taylor

Who is a Candidate?
People of any age who have low to moderate amounts of myopia or astigmatism. Many doctors are comfortable treating myopia of -6.00 diopters of prescription or less. Ortho-K is best suited for myopia, but studies are underway for hyperopia (farsightedness).
